πŸ‘€ Tara's group ✋

Sensory play

Sensory play is a huge part of early learning and here in the Marian Centre we have our sensory area which all the children love.

Messy / sensory play is important for young children it gives them endless ways to develop and learn. All types of play are essential for children's development and early learning, sensory play helps to develop fine and gross motor skills ,coordination and concentration it also helps to  encourage children to learn how to work cooperatively and collaboratively.

During sensory activities children use their senses to discover and explore their environment and develop their imagination ,creative thinking and ability to problem solve and experiment with Solutions.

There are many reasons why sensory play is beneficial to a child's development. Sensory play includes any activity that stimulates a young child's sense of touch, smell, taste ,balance, sight and hearing.

Tara's group have been enjoying a variety of sensory activities they particularly love Playdough and slime.

The group enjoying a Playdough session in our sensory area

Blake is busy moulding a piece of playdough. Playdough is an excellent activity for the development of fine motor skills. When children are moulding playdough into different shapes they are actually building up strength in their tiny hands.

When children squish roll or flatten the Playdough it helps to develop muscles used in their hands for fine motor movements useful in the future such as holding a pencil or using a scissors,

Tianna is deeply engrossed in the activity she is enjoying squeezing and kneading the dough.

Playdough can have a calming effect on children. It  can help ease anxiety, release excess energy, improve focus, and help children express their emotions.

Zara is using a lot of energy to squeeze her piece of playdough into the shape she wants .

Playdough encourages creativity the creations are endless.

Creating objects from scratch encourages children to stretch their imagination and think in new and innovative ways.

Jake really enjoys playing with playdough and always chats along with his friend's while doing this activity.

When children work together while playing at a playdough table it helps to encourage social development.

Activities like this encourages sharing various tools and materials as well as spending time together discussing and collaborating their ideas which encourages language development.

Playdough is a great activity to help encourage social skills it is a free activity with no end product just lots of fun, creativity and imagination.
